Fort Jackson
Fort Jackson is the largest and most active Initial Entry Training Center in the U.S. Army. It trains 50,000 soldiers in basic training and advanced individual training every year. Fort Jackson prides itself with providing the Army with trained, disciplined, motivated and physically fit warriors who encompass the Army's core values. The post is also home to the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute, the U.S. Army Chaplains Center and the Defense Academy for Credibility Assessment.
The fort is made up with more than 52,000 acres, including over 100 ranges and 1,160 buildings. Soldiers, civilians, retirees, and family members make up the Fort Jackson community that continues to grow in numbers and facilities. Over 3,900 active duty Soldiers and their 14,000 family members are assigned to the installation and make this area their home. Fort Jackson also employs almost 5,200 civilians and provides services for more than 36,000 retirees and their family members.
Fort Jackson is located in Columbia, South Carolina. Columbia is a great location that allows for a short drive to the mountains or the beach. Columbia is also home to some of the best schools in the state. Children of military personnel living of post are primarily supported by two school districts, Richland 1 and Richland 2. Richland 2 consists of 15 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 14 high schools. Richland 1 is made up of 30 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, and 8 high schools
